Are
you at risk of contacting the virus?
We
are all considered to be at risk and you should schedule an appointment
to be vaccinated for the regular seasonal flu if you are over 6
months of age.
However,
you are considered to be at higher risk if you meet any of the following
criteria:
- you
are pregnant
- you
suffer from a chronic medical condition or
immunosuppression
- are
a resident of a nursing home
- are
a health-care worker
- are
a contact or caregiver for children less than 5 years of age or
adults age 50 and older
- 50
years of age or older (particularly high risk)
If
you meet any of the above-listed criteria you should schedule an
appointment to be immunized for the regular seasonal flu now. K'ima:w
Medical Center provides flu clinics every Thursday.
In addition to being immunized for the regular seasonal flu all
high-risk individuals should plan to get immunized for 2009 H1N1
vaccine when it becomes available in October. Please be aware that
this is a different immunization from the regular seasonal flu.
